Our Shipping Process
We consider shipping as an option and we make the shipping arrangements — this is because most often we find suitable homes for our Dachshund puppies but they might not be located within driving distance. We can guess what question you have in mind right now: “Flying a puppy! Is it safe?” This question is often asked. We certainly wouldn’t consider it if it wasn’t.
Safe & Approved Airlines
We make inquiries about a company’s shipping reputation before using them. When we book a flight for a puppy, it is only on safe and approved airlines that have pet-safe programs following USDA guidelines.
Passenger Cabin — Not Cargo
Your puppy will have the same air as the pilot flying the plane. Someone will be there to cater to him/her on board. We don’t fly puppies in the cargo section — they are shipped in the passenger section together with pet nannies until delivery is completed.
Same-Day Arrival
The average flight is approximately 4 to 6 hours. We always ask about any delays or layovers and know the exact times and departures of the flights, so we know where the puppy is and can give you the information as well. Your puppy will arrive the same day it is sent.
Comfort & Care
With many years of experience, we prep your baby to be most comfortable. We have a big fluffy bed of shredded newspapers in the crate for the puppy to nestle in, a pig’s ear chew (they love them!), a toy or sock with a familiar scent, and frozen water that gradually thaws during the trip.
Why Flying Is Safe
Shipping your puppy by itself to a new location always sounds concerning, but with many years of experience, we’ve never had any issues shipping a puppy. The airlines are not going to mistreat the puppy for fear of lawsuit and customer dissatisfaction. We tape the puppy’s food and feeding instructions to the top of the crate, and the puppies are offered food along the ride.
Research and statistics show that it is much better to fly a puppy on a 2–6 hour flight than to drive over 4 hours in an environment that may not be climate-controlled. Plus, there is always the added benefit that we are dealing with professionals who have transported thousands of pets safely and comfortably.
Direct Flights Only
When we go to book a flight for our pets, we always call ahead and find the most direct flight available — much as if you were looking for a flight for yourself. Our Dachshund puppies have always arrived safe and sound in their new homes.
